Walmart’s D-FW makeover: 3 stores to be updated and 3 new stores are on the way

The store upgrades come as the chain plans new locations in North Texas.

Walmart is investing in Texas with plans for refreshes at dozens of sites.

The massive retailer aims to update more than 65 stores, including a handful in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, this year, according to a statement from the company. Walmart invested over $2.6 billion to upgrade stores in Texas in the last five years.

Walmart is pouring resources into the Lone Star State to stand out in the dynamic retail industry that’s benefiting from population growth and new business additions. The company plans to add new stores with new supercenters opening in 2025 in Frisco and Melissa, along with Cypress, this year. Another is set for Celina in the spring of 2026.

“By investing in our stores and associates, we are not only improving the shopping experience but also reinforcing our commitment to being a vital part of the community’s fabric,” Paul Lewellen, senior vice president, southwest business unit operations, said in the statement.
